The first true Sci-Fi Horror
Alien is one of those movies that will never be forgotten, you know why? Because each scene is as gripping as the next, with incredible set design and a beautiful score that will haunt you during the movie, Alien still remains one of the best movies to date. I struggle to find anything wrong with this movie, some of the effects may be a little dated, but they still manage to scare you to the point of not knowing where the story might head next. Alien follows the crew of the Nostromo, a mining spaceship on a return course back to earth which is interrupted by a "signal" coming from a nearby planet, the crew are sent down the investigate. Sigourney Weaver plays Ripley, someone who couldn't really be described as an explorer, more of a person who just wants to get the job done and get home. You see her character build throughout the movie, from being a quiet but stern woman, to a resourceful warrior. The pacing, the mood of Alien is what really grabs you, there's not always explosions or people dying... there's suspense. It leaves you in silence, and then throws something at you. The Blu-Ray version of Aliens compliments Ridley Scott's visual style by tenfold, to the point that you aren't stunned by what's going on in the scene but rather the definition of the sets and the lighting in the scene. I don't want to make this review too long or too descriptive, because I want people to watch the movie and take their own opinions from it, the only thing you need to do- is to watch this film, because even if you're not scared by it or mesmerized by it, it provides some stunning film making, dialogue and scenes.
