1. After seeing this movie I only make friends with people who have been arrested for killing puppies and with girls who snub me for their much cooler friends.
2. I really F***ING hate the word "Chicken" and will destroy all who threaten me with this title. Honestly, I've even stopped eating chicken because the word makes me so angry that I just want to go all out and shank a bunch of rowdy guys that I've done absolutely nothing to but who nonetheless would like to fight me with sharp objects anyway.
3. I too, like many other teenagers feel out of place and alone at times. Rather than talking about this with friends, family, and that helpful police officer I met last week, I prefer to jump out of cars and choke my father before before running away from my house.
4. Before this movie, I was satisfied with a family that seemed normal in every regard. Until I realized that I had my gender roles mixed up. My mom shouldn't have a job! It's absolutely SICKENING to me that my father's natural tendencies are to be quite gentle and that my mother's are to be assertive. My father should take charge. Once I saw him wearing an apron and it literally prompted me to run out of my house and almost drive off of a cliff. Honestly what kind of role model is he trying to be? What kind of MONSTER does he want me to grow up to be?
5. Since this movie I have realized how truly incredible love is. We teenagers seem to find it when and wherever red leather jackets and poor decisions can be found. After my boyfriend was killed in an unfortunate game of CHICKEN (honestly, I can't even say the word without getting furious) I found love in the form of his opponent jim/jamie/james/i forgot his name I only met him a few days ago. I have never been more exited for my future. We're going to have a crazy bunch of kids and when they're all grown, we're still going to kiss each other on the lips.
Ta ta for now my fellow movie-lovers! I hope you too can find such incredible happiness in your lives!
General Trivia
All three lead actor--James Dean, Sal Mineo, and Natalie wood--died prematurely under tragic circumstances;
Dean died in an automobile accident in September 1955, Mineo was stabbed to death on February 12, 1976, and Wood drowned in the late autumn of 1981. In addition, Edward Platt [Chief in _Get Smart_] died by suicide in 1974 and Dennis Hopper fell ill suddenly in the fall of 2009 and died five months later.
It's perpetuating of the myth of a curse on this movie isn't even all that accurate.
Platt's death is also tragic, but was more than 2 ½ decades after the movie was shot and Hopper died of prostate cancer, about 7 months after his diagnosis. Hell, why didn't they just add that Jim Backus left on a 3-hour tour and he and 6 trip-mates were blown off course by an unexpected storm where they were marooned on an uncharted desert island for many years?
I was so good at shoveling snow, I once dug my English teacher's car out of a massive drift. I received a "B" in her class, but that was just for my writing. I got an entrenching tool out of the garage for that job. She also took me to her house for dinner, and then drove me back.
My sister and I were just plain afraid to go home. The characters in this movie didn't have any such support network. This makes it a genuine tragedy. For me, it wasn't fear of beatings, but seeing my mother beat. She divorced him. I couldn't bear that. I have a wife and a daughter now, and if that THING ever arrives on my doorstep, I'll kill him in half.
For people who have been through the wringer, this is an outstanding movie.
