I have collected this movie in the various formats. My first version of this movie was purchased back in 1979 (at full price). It was that influential to me.
This new edition takes advantage of the new technology to offer better audio and picture quality as well as neat bonus features such as one mockumetary of what happened to all the characters from the movie and new interviews with the cast. While these features are interesting, there was a documentary of the making of the movie that was produced in 1978. I would have liked to see that on this disk.
The one thing that really annoys me about this edition is the 5 minutes of trailers that you are forced to watch when you pop the disk in. I can understand being forced to view the Copyright Notice but, commercials? It only allows you to Fast-Forward through them and not skip them. If I wanted to Fast-Forward through trailers, I could have stuck with my VHS versions. I cut my rating by one star because of this. Universal should stick to paper inserts and make the trailers optional.
